Some MJ Videos Buried Deep
With Michael Jackson’s passing, YouTube views of videos like Thriller have been skyrocketing, that should almost go without saying but USA Today doesn’t think so. In fact, the online world has been buzzing with so many MJ queries and web hits that when the news first started circulating, Google assumed the internet was under attack.
So if you’re one of the many people out there privately memorializing America’s greatest export since the car, don’t settle for the low hanging fruit. You have to dig deep to find the real treasures: like a mint-condition copy of Off The Wall at a Goodwill. Luckily for you, I have already done a lot of that for you.
Check out videos like "Je ne veux pas la fin de nous", Michael’s French language version of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.” The video is overdubbed from the original English version but the voice is no doubt Michael’s—he even did a Spanish version, too!
If you’re tired of the videos of the King of Pop himself and would rather meditate on Jackson as a conceptual being, why not watch the hypnotic opening to Harmony Korine’s “Mister Lonely” with Diego Luna dressed as Jackson riding a miniature motorcycle, complete with a flying stuffed chimp?
There’s a huge collection of acappella versions on YouTube, where users redub the original videos with vocal-only mixes.
…while “Beat It” is stark and awkward without the rock band support.
Also, speaking of acappella renditions, make sure you check out the esteemed L.A. violinist and singer Petra Haden’s rendition of “Thriller” as a tribute to the King of Pop.
